It is our pleasure to add Lino Persi to our Travel Coaching staff this season. Lino is a native of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, played his minor hockey for the Knights of Columbus organization from age 6 to 18. During his minor hockey years, he played for various A-level (Travel) teams. Upon moving to the Bay Area in 1995, he continued playing hockey in various adult leagues and presently still plays with fellow Tri Valley coaches. He joined our Tri-Valley Minor Hockey organization in 2006 as an assistant coach in our Mite In-House program. In 2008/2009 season, Lino was co-Head Coach for the Mite In-House team, which consisted of 57 Mites.
Lino, and his wife Stephanie have two boys. Anthony, whom is entering his third season at the Mite level, and Domenic, who is a couple years away from entering the Mite program. The Persi's are also expecting another boy this summer, so call it a hat trick for Tri-Valley!
Emery Lykins
We are proud to announce Emery Lykins as an addition to our coaching staff. Emery started his minor hockey career in the Midwest playing In-House, working his way up to Tier, Junior A and then onto a professional career in the Ottawa Senators system as well as the New York Rangers system falling just short of the NHL.
For the last 18 years, Emery has instructed Hockey Schools and Clinics. He’s coached Mites to Midget AAA and Junior Hockey. His players have advanced to Junior A and B levels as well as NCAA DI and DIII with some receiving full scholarships. Emery’s been known as one of the top coaches in the Bay Area for the past 8 years and has coached teams to both Norcal and State Championships. With his continued success and demand he recently opened a company called EM-ICE. His knowledge and experience will be greatly valued at Tri-Valley.
Andy Barclay
Tri-Valley welcomes Andy Barclay as he takes the position of Head Coach this season. Barclay is originally from Southern Ontario, Canada. He started playing recreational hockey when he was 4 years old and continued to play throughout his childhood. When he moved to Ottawa Canada for University, he began playing outdoor hockey and skating on the Rideau Canal which re-ignited his passion for hockey. In 1996, he moved to the Bay Area and played pickup hockey in Oakland. He was assistant coach with in-house mites in 2006/2007, co-head coach of the in-house mites in 2007/2008, and an assistant coach with the Mite-X team in 2008/2009. He currently captains an adult team in Oakland and one in Fremont.
John Young
John Young has been a dedicated coach with Tri-Valley for the past 5 years. He began his youth hockey career playing for the North Shore Winter Club in North Vancouver, B.C., winning the Provincial Championships in 1977. 1978 brought John to Norcal where he played at the Pee Wee, Bantam and Midget levels earning 2 State Championships at AAA and 2 State Championships at AA. John played Collegiate Hockey with UCLA from 1987-1991 and as team captain won PCHA Championships in 1989 and 1991.
From 1985-87, John was Lead Instructor for the Rocky Mountain Hockey School in Boulder, CO & St. Joseph, MO. In 1992 he worked alongside Kevin Constantine at the San Jose Sharks - Elite Boarding Camp. His hockey career continues as he is currently playing his 38th consecutive Hockey Season in an adult league.
With John Young’s coaching, his Tri-Valley teams have earned 4 trips to Norcal and two trips to State, which includes this last seasons State Finalist finish. We are proud to have him as a staple with this club!
Dan Merrick
Coming soon.
Randy Stewart
Randy Stewart is one of our highly respected Level 5 Master Coaches. His coaching career started with Tri-Valley in 1996 and over the past 12 years has coached youth levels from Squirt to Midget Majors. In 2000, Randy left Tri-Valley and coached for the Jr. Coyotes and the Jr. Sharks in 2001, but came back home to Tri-Valley in 2002.
For a time, coaching wasn’t enough for Randy and his passion for the game led him to obtain a Level 2 Referee status. He’s also played on adult hockey leagues in both B and C divisions.
With many miles traveled, countless hotels and priceless memories, Randy’s competitive youth hockey teams have gone on to achieve 2 State Championships, 4 State Playoffs, 1 State Runner-up, 3 Norcal Championships, 7 Norcal Playoffs, 10 Tournament Championships and 8 Tournament Runner-up games. Not an easy task!
Randy’s dedication and commitment to coaching is a testament to the level of success this club has seen.
Mike Holmes
One of our most valued coaches, Mike Holmes has been with Tri-Valley for the past 11 years and the Director of Coaches for the last 6. He is also a Scout for Prince George of the BCHL. This past season, his Midget 18AA Team advanced to the Quarter Finals at Nationals in Pittsburgh, PA as the Pacific District Champions. Included in his success with Tri-Valley are 2 State Championships and 2 Norcal Championships.
Mike played two years of Jr A hockey with Penticton of the BCHL. He was
Captain, an All Star, and awarded Best Defensemen in his second season
earning him a scholarship to Northeastern University in Boston. At
Northeastern Mike had career total 25 goals and 127 assists in 108 games
over four varsity seasons. Holmes is the University's career assists leader
and currently sits in tenth place on the all-time scoring list. NU's
all-time leading scoring defensemen! Mike was Rookie of the Year as a
freshman and named captain of the Huskies as a junior. In his 1976-77
season, Mike lead the team in scoring with 10 goals and 33 assists for a
career best 43 points in 28 games and was named Most Valuable Player.
An amazingly consistent career at Northeastern paved the way to a tryout
with the Boston Bruins. Mike went on to play two full seasons in the Bruins
organization in Grand Rapids MI, earning Best Defenseman honors both
seasons. He was also elected to the Northeastern Hall of Fame in 1991 for
his accomplishments in the sport of ice hockey.
Mike's vast experience and knowledge of the game doesn't come close to the
character and integrity he's shown in his commitment to the kids on his team
and this club. Thank you Mike!
