The Midget 18A's played the tournament with a single mission in their minds. A confident and talented performance in the title game was reflective of the consistent performance throughout the event as the team showed that they were determined to repeat as Regional Champions and return to the Silver Stick International Tournament in Sarnia, Ontario.

BANTAMS GRIND OUT A 4-2 WIN AT HOME!

In their Norcal season home opener, the Blue Devil Bantams faced the tenacious Cupertino Cougars.

From the opening faceoff, the game featured intense action with several hard checks and fast breaks.
Tri-Valley opened the scoring in the first period with a marvelous end to end rush from Brandon Byrnes that resulted in the first of Brandon's two goals on the evening.
The Cougars then rebounded strongly by scoring two goals in less than a minute during the second period which took the Blue Devil Bantams by surprise.
Both teams had good end to end plays, but Blue Devil forwards Cody Leibow, Randall Hahn and Steven Xue created some of the evenings best neutral zone transitions and line rushes which produced several quality chances and resulted with a twisted wrister shot from the point for Byrnes second goal to tie the game at 2-2.
The Blue Devil Bantams went up 3-2 on a well executed transition from Andrew Byrnes to Tommy Heppner to Artem Tarkhanyan, who then fooled the Cougar dman with a move that led to what would end up being the game winning goal.
Cupertino was not finished though. For several minutes, the Cougars pressed hard and created scoring opportunities but were ultimately stopped by the outstanding effort in goal by Jesse Rogers and physical defensive play by Maddie Christoff and Andreas Rahm.
Late in the game with little time remaining and the score at 3-2, the Cougars pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. The Blue Devils looked very confused in the defensive zone as clearing attempts would not cross the blue line to safety.
Finally, the puck rebounded off a skate and out of the zone to be picked up by Tarkhanyan who streaked past a defender into open ice and shot the puck into the open net for the 4-2 victory.
Next game for the Blue Devil Bantams is in Santa Rosa on Saturday.

PEEWEES PLAY STRONG IN 7-2 HOME OPENER WIN!

Dublin, CA - After his team suffered a heartbreaking season opening loss to Santa Clara, Tri Valley PeeWee A Head Coach Ken Vonderach was wondering how his players would rebound the following week.

The answer was resounding as the Blue Devils got a hat-trick from Andreas Dereschuk and nearly perfect goaltending from Colby Paxton on their way to a 7-2 victory over the Berkeley Bulldogs at Dublin Iceland.

"I'm so proud of the way the team responded", said Vonderach. "We were strong in all three zones of the ice and we received solid performances from everybody on the roster."

The Blue Devils hit double digit figures in shots on goal in each period, outshooting Berkeley 55-27 on the night.

Tri Valley opened scoring just 4 minutes into the game when Patrick Melville tallied on a setup from Dereschuk. Mike Birdsall tied it up just a few seconds later for the Cougars. Dereschuck then scored his first goal of the contest with assists from Alec Christoff and Melville. Berkeley came right back with a goal from Chris Timm and it was 2-2. But Tri Valley wasn't finished. They added two more first period goals and never looked back. Theo Somers made it 3-2 on a goal set up by Jordan Smith and Michael Hahn. Then with a minute left to go in the period Dereschuck netted his second goal of the game with Christoff and Nathan Lundberg assisting.

Dereschuck, who finished with 5 points in the game, completed his hat-trick early in the second period with assists on the goal to Christoff and Melville. Melville had a big game also with a goal and two assists. Christoff had one goal and three assists.

Somers made it 6-2 with his second goal with assists going to Hahn and Chase Piombo. Christoff rounded out the scoring in the third period on a setup from Dereschuck.

After allowing the two first period goals, Paxton was excellent in goal shutting out the Cougars the rest of the way. He finished with 25 saves.

Tri Valley also received solid efforts from Jeremy Che, Graham Dickinson, PJ Kruse, Michael Liamos, and Matthew-Donald Toombs.
With a 1-1 NORCAL Hockey Association record, the Blue Devils have a bye next weekend.
