Frequently Asked Questions

What level do I place my child in?

Your child’s level is determined by his or her year of birth.

Mite/Mini-Mite: YOB 2002 or later
Bantam: YOB 1996 or 1997
Squirt: YOB 2000 or 2001
Midget: YOB 1991 to 1995
Peewee: YOB 1998 or 1999

Should I pre-register or just drop-in?

A maximum of 30 skaters and 4 goalies will be allowed on the ice during any single event.  Pre-registration ensures your spot.  If there are fewer that 30 skaters pre-registered; drop-ins will be accommodated on a first come, first served basis.  If you pre-register, but are more than 15 minutes late for a single event without giving prior notice, your spot will be given to a drop-in skater.  The drop-in fee is $20.00 per skater.  Pre-registration rates are lower, depending on the session. Registration will be open only to Tri-Valley families up until April 30th.  If there are spots remaining after this date, we will open sessions to non-club members. Non-club members will be accommodated in the order received, with the earliest postmark taken first. Registration forms postmarked on the same day will be taken in alphabetical order.  Full registration and payment is required at least one week before the session begins.  Each monthly session contains four weeks and no refunds, exchanges or partial payments for sessions will be issued or accepted, so please review your summer schedule carefully for conflicts.  Confirmation of registration will be sent to you via the email address you provide on your registration form.  Please print legibly

What should I do if we cannot make all of the dates in a session?

There are two things you can do in this situation.  You can reserve a guaranteed spot on the dates you can make by signing up for the complete session, or you can take your chances by dropping in on dates that you know you can make.  Pro-rations will not be made for dates in a session that you cannot attend so you must decide which is more important; a guaranteed spot with its associated increased average cost or taking a chance that there will be an opening when you drop in.  This is why it is so important for you to look at your summer schedules carefully before registering for a session.

How will drop-in skaters be handled?

Drop-ins will only be accepted on the day of a skill session or scrimmage.  Player’s names will be added to the list on a first-come, first-served basis up to a maximum of 30 skaters and four goalies. Anyone who is listed beyond the maximum number allowed will be required to wait until the event coordinator has cleared them to take the ice.  Pre-registered players have up to 15 minutes after the start of an event to claim their spot or it is given to the first available drop-in who is present, dressed and ready to take the ice.  Any drop-ins who cannot be accommodated will be given a full refund.  In addition, no payment will be accepted for future drop-in dates and pre-registered spots are not transferrable between players.

My child just finished a season with the Tri-Valley Blue Devils:

All of your child’s documents will still be on file with us.  All we will need is the completed pre-registration forms and payment of the associated fees.

We’re new to Tri-Valley, but have played hockey somewhere else:
Welcome to our club!
You must provide the following documentation in order to participate in our summer program:  Proof of current USA Hockey membership and a copy of your child’s birth certificate.  Sorry, USA Hockey Inline membership will not suffice.

If you cannot find your USA Hockey proof of registration, please go to www.usahockey.com to get a confirmation via email. If you did not register online, you can call them at 1-800-566-3288, ext. 123 and they will send you a copy.

No player may step on the ice without proof of USA Hockey membership.  There are no exceptions to this rule so please make sure you have all required documents.

We’re new to ice hockey and don’t even know where to begin!
At one time we were too; so, please feel free to ask questions.

  1. All players must be registered with USA Hockey.  Please go to www.usahockey.com and click on players/online registration.  Please make sure you register for ice hockey as inline hockey registration will not suffice.  Print out your confirmation and either bring it with you to your first session or mail it in with your registration form.
  2. Please provide a photocopy of your child’s birth certificate either in person at your first session or by mailing it in with your registration form.

What equipment is required?

All players are required to wear HECC approved ice hockey equipment.  This includes helmet, mouth guard, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, hockey pants, cup/pelvic protector, shin guards, skates and of course a stick.  For Sunday scrimmages, each player should bring both a light and dark colored jersey each week as teams will be selected randomly.  If you have any questions at all please don’t hesitate to ask.

We’re ready to tryout for a travel team!

Tryouts for the 2010-2011 season will be held on August 6th, 7th and 8th at Dublin Iceland.  Anyone wishing to play on a travel team in the fall must plan on attending all three days of tryouts.  Returning players may request an excused absence by contacting the Tri-Valley Director of Coaches.

Does my child have to try out to play in the fall?

Players who would like to join our in-house program in the fall do not need to try out.  Information about in-house registration will be posted on the club’s website at a later date.
