In-House Overview

What’s the difference between In-House vs. Travel hockey?

Travel hockey is the highest level of play that our club offers. A player must tryout for these teams, practice several times a week, and plays 1 or 2 games against other clubs’ travel teams around Northern California usually on weekends. These teams will vie for Northern California, State, and National championships.

The in-house program does not require a tryout, all players of all ages are welcome to participate and players play against other teams within our club. In-house hockey players have the opportunity to master skills and move on to travel teams as their skills and abilities improve with each subsequent season.

What is the minimum skill level for In-House hockey

For each age level, there are minimum skill requirements that are necessary for players to participate. For new players, they should have completed a Learn to Skate Program at either Dublin Iceland or Tri-Valley Ice. For older players or players making the transition from roller hockey, they need to have basic skating skills: starting, stopping and turning correctly. At the beginning of each season, we will evaluate new players on the ice during their first practice and determine if a player has the basic skills required.

What is the ADM?

American Development Model from USA Hockey

At TVMHA, we follow the coaching and instructional guidelines developed by USAH. This is a very successful program for teaching hockey skills to young players, that was developed by USAH and has been implement at clubs throughout the country. We have now been following the ADM model at TVMHA for 5 years now and use it from the Mini-Mite 6U through Bantam 14U divisions. To learn more about this program, please go to the USAH website by clicking on the link.

Can Girls Play In-House hockey?

Of course they can! TVMHA offers all girls teams at all levels from 6U/8U to High School. Please visit Lady Blue Devils Program for more information. All in-house co-ed programs at TVMHA are also open to girls too. The 6U through 10U levels are non-contact, non-checking levels. The 12U and 14U levels have body contact, but no body checking is allowed.

We teach body contact skills at all age levels. Safety of the players is a priority at TVMHA. We are not playing for the Stanley Cup; we’re all about having fun, teaching skills and building character. If you play and you have a sister, why don’t you ask her if she would like to play hockey too!

Does TVMHA have a High School Hockey program?

Yes, we do and it is a very strong and growing one! Players who are interested, should go to the links below for more information on the 2 different High School Hockey Programs that we offer.

You may be wondering, should I choose to play in-house 14U/16U or High School hockey? If your player is 14 or older and is in High School, he/she can play either in our 14U/16U or High School programs, or in both, if they so desire. The 14U program is better suited for beginning players. The High School program is a more competitive level of play. High School hockey has 4 different levels of play (including a non-check league). The High School hockey season is also shorter.
